COLORECTAL CANCER SCREENING

Colorectal Cancer Screening

Colon Cancer is the third leading cause of cancer in men and the second leading cause of cancer in women. The only way to diagnose colon cancer is through a Colonoscopy procedure. This procedure is painless, takes only about 15-20 minutes, has low risks and is considered a safe procedure. It is recommended that all adults over the age of 50 have a colonoscopy. However, Dr. Foster recommends that African American's get tested earlier, at age 45.

There are several risk factors for developing colon cancer, including the ones listed below:
  • Age (50 and over, although for African Americans it's 45 and older)
  • Race (Higher in African Americans)
  • Family History
  • Obesity
  • Smoking
  • Alcohol Use (2-3 Drinks Per Day)
  • Diabetes
